  • Surviving Summer’s Heat
    The number of heat-related deaths rises with the temperatures each summer. Young children, older individuals, people who are overweight, those with heart and breathing problems, and individuals on certain medications are at greatest risk, according to the PA Department of Health.   (07/17/08)

  • Diabetes is a Growing Problem
    Nearly 24 million people in the United States are suffering from diabetes, according to 2007 statistics collected by the Centers for Disease Control & Prevention. Twenty-five percent of diabetics do not know they have the disease, identified as the seventh-leading cause of death in the U.S.   (06/27/08)

  • Take a Swing Against Breast Cancer
    The PA Breast Cancer Coalition (PBCC) wants you to "hit one out of the park" in the battle against the disease with which some 9,500 Pennsylvania women are diagnosed annually. During July 2008, the Pennsylvania Coalition is teaming up with 11 minor league baseball stadiums and sponsors across the state to raise awareness, funds, and fun in the name of treatment, prevention, and a cure for breast cancer.   (06/23/08)

    Just as the National Oceanic & Atmospheric Administration (NOAA) was reporting March-May of 2008 represented the 36th coolest spring season on record for the contiguous United States, scorching temperatures settled in across the East Coast taking a toll on Pennsylvanians.   (06/16/08)

    [07/23/08] PA TREASURER UNVEILS STATE GOVERNMENT CONTRACTS ONLINE DATABASE
    Created in accordance with new Right-to-Know law provision authored by Sen. Jake Corman

    (HARRISBURG) - Pennsylvania Treasurer Robin L. Wiessmann yesterday publicly unveiled a searchable database that allows the public greater access to state government contract information through the Pennsylvania Treasury Department's Web site, patreasury.org.
